World Cup FootBall - Argentina
The 2014 FIFA World Cup is in full swing down here in South America. With the games taking place in Brazil, and several Latin American countries still in the running for the coveted title of football (soccer) world champions for the next four years, the excitement can't be contained. Here in Buenos Aires, the city stops during the Argentina matches. Everyone leaves work, children leave school, and the streets clear at 1 pm in the afternoon while everyone watches the game. A giant screen in Plaza San Martin--where these photos were taken--shows every World Cup match. When Argentina plays, the hills explode with people of all ages, classes, and walks of life dawning their baby blue, white, and yellow hats, jerseys, and national flags. While the rivalries between local club football teams are notoriously intense in Buenos Aires, the World Cup is a time for the whole country to jump, cheer, and sing as one for the same team, la patria Argentina.
