recoleta cemetery
One of Buenos Aires' most historic sites, the Recoleta Cemetery is the final resting place of the country's wealthiest and most influential people. Originally a modest burial grounds for the colonial society's monks, the cemetery now boasts 46,000 square miles of ornate mausoleums. The families of Argentina's high society competed to make their burial site larger and more extravagant than the last, but no other mausoleum draws more visitors than the final resting place of Eva Peron.
